This tool is used to remove information from a design. It works with the selected paintbrush, and can be resized in the same way as any brush.
Using the Eraser Tool on separated layers
- Select the eraser tool from the Tools Palette or press the E key on the keyboard to automatically select this tool.
- Double click on the Eraser Tool in the Tools Palette to select a brush from the Brushes Library.
- Make all of the layers you want to remove information from active and begin drawing over the relevant areas.
Using the Eraser Tool on images
Deleting information from an image which has a coloured background with the Eraser Tool is very similar to the previous steps, but involves a couple more.
When you use the Eraser Tool on an image, it will always replace the deleted information with the colour set as the background colour in the Tools Palette. Therefore, if the background of the design is coloured, and the Tools Palette contains the default foreground and background colours of black and white respectively, you will create white ‘holes’ in your design as you erase.
To prevent this from happening, follow the steps below.
- Select the Eraser Tool from the Tools Palette or press the E key on the keyboard to automatically select this tool.
- Choose your desired brush from the Brushes Palette and resize if it necessary.
- Select the Pipette Tool from the Tools Palette or press the i key on the keyboard to automatically select this tool.
- Holding down ⌥ (option key), click on the background colour in your design. Doing this will set the background colour in the Tools Palette to that colour.
- Make the image you wish to information from active and begin drawing over the relevant areas. You will see the areas you erase become the background colour.
