Blocker Layers

Set any spot layer as a 'blocker' to restrict changes in areas where it overlaps other layers.

You can now set any spot layer as a "blocker layer" directly from the Layers window. A blocker layer prevents changes to other layers in areas where the blocker layer has painted pixels. This works similarly to selections in AVA, where you can't modify layers outside the selected area.

In the Layers window, a new column shows the status of each layer:

Unavailable:

  • Icon: Red dot
  • Meaning: This layer can’t be a blocker (e.g., non-spot layers).

Blocking Off:

  • Icon: Open door
  • Meaning: The layer doesn’t block changes to other layers (default behaviour).

Blocking On:

  • Icon: Closed door
  • Meaning: Areas with painted pixels on this layer prevent changes to the same positions on other layers.

Note: A layer cannot be both active (selected) and a blocker at the same time. This is automatically managed in the Layers window.
