Ink well: Tapered brushes

Building and fading brush strokes

Ink well is used to strengthen or weaken a brush stroke as you paint. It is perfect for creating tapered brushes and is very easy to set up.

To activate this feature:

  • tick ‘Ink well’ in the top left of the Brushes Library
  • activate one or both of the Pressure Settings in the action menu:

The size and/or density of your paint brush is now determined via the time or distance setting chosen. Negative options (d- and t-) produce brush strokes which fade as you paint. Positive options (d+ and t+) produce brush strokes which strengthen as you paint.

The slider bar is used to increase or decrease the time or distance over which your brush changes.

Distance ‘-‘ and ‘+’

Set the brush to run out or strengthen over a set distance as you draw.

  • Selecting d- from the drop down menu will result in your brush running out as you paint
  • Selecting d+ from the drop down menu will result in your brush strengthening as you paint

Time ‘-‘ and ‘+’

Set the brush to run out or strengthen over time as you draw.

  • Selecting t- from the drop down menu will result in longer brush strokes when you paint quickly. The slower you paint, the shorter your brush stroke will be.
  • Selecting t+ from the drop down menu will result in your brush strengthening as you paint. The slider bar acts as a delay when this mode is selected.
