Overlaps: Selecting and editing overprinting layers

Editing overlapping areas of separated layers


Selections are a fundamental part of the AVA software. They are required to complete certain functions in the software but they are also extremely useful in helping you achieve exciting design effects. It is important to master using selections in your working methods to make your work flows more effective.


Overlaps will make a selection of any overlapping areas on the active layers.

  1. Activate the layers which overlap in the  Layers Palette
  2. Go to Edit Menu > Select > Overlaps. The overlapping information will be selected:

  3. Use this new selection to edit the overlaps accordingly.

Note: Pay attention to which layer is active in the Layers Palette as you edit. The layer you want to change is the one which needs to be active (have the pencil icon selected.
