Tools Settings : Customising the Tools Palette

Hide the tools you never use

The Tools Settings let to you choose which tools are visible in your Tools Palette. The benefit of this is you can remove the tools you never use, and in doing so, reduce the size of your palette, thus decluttering your monitor. The ability to flip the orientation of the palette is equally as powerful. Some users will prefer to keep is as a vertical palette, but others may choose to have the palette sat horizontally.  It is completely customisable!

Set the startup tool by clicking on the following icon in the Tools Settings :

Choose which tool is active upon launching AVA. Simply select your chosen tool in the palette and click this button. AVA recommends you choose a non-editing tool such as the Hand tool as the start up tool as this will prevent unintentional editing when upon opening a design.

Using the central panel of this window, choose which tools are shown in your Tools Palette. Some users may find they never use some tools available to them. By deselecting those tools, they will be hidden, thus reducing the size of the palette. They can be added back at any time by ticking the tool.

  • Set Defaults - restores the tool Settings to the default settings, which are all tools showing in the palette and the layout set to a vertical layout and three tools across
  • Hide All Tools - hides all tools in the palette

This is useful when creating your own layout within the Tools Palette. Normal practice would be to hide all the tools and then simply add back the tools you wish the window to show using the boxes in the central panel of the window

  • Flip window orientation - flips the palette from a vertical layout to a horizontal layout and vice versa. This option allows you to maximise the space on your screen
  • Tools across - set the number tools you wish to show across the width of your palette. The number of tools shown down, will adjust accordingly
  • Edges - choose to have round or square edges to each visible tool in the palette, or select ‘none’ to remove the edges completely
