Troubleshooting printer profiling

How do I run a diagnostics test on my i1 Pro2?

If you are having problems with your i1 Pro 2, you should run the diagnostics test supplied by Xrite here.

My profile looks wrong

If your profile looks like it's the wrong shape, or just a little haphazard it could have been read in wrong. The best way to fix this problem is to look through all of the pages and see if you can spot any misreadings. If the outside of the chip looks a very different colour to the inside of the chip, this means the colour is wrong or there is something wrong with the print.

The picture above illustrates what misreadings might look like. To restart reading a line click on the first chip of the line, then go to Measuring > restart. Your reading of this line will then overwrite the error.

My profile graph looks squashed

Delete

If when you view your graph the overall shape looks squashed it could mean that your printer is being colour managed. The image below illustrates the difference between a good (left) graph and bad (right) graph

The extra colour management should not cause a problem with colour matching itself, but reduces your gamut. So in this situation it is best to re-do your printer profile ensuring that colour management is turned off. It could be as simple as choosing a different paper type (on an Epson for example). For more information on this please contact technical support.
