Naming colourways

Categorising colourways in the Layers Palette

Being able to add a name or title to your colourways is particularly useful to all those people in the industry who need to assign names or references to their colourways for the purposes of identification and filing. Names are saved and loaded in the file with the other design information.

New colourways are not given a name. To assign a name to a colourway, or change the name of an existing one, follow the steps below:

  1. Select the relevant colourway number in the Layers Palette.

  2. Enter the colourway name into the text field, as shown below:

To add names to other colourways, simply repeat the process for the relevant colourways.

Note: When the colourway name field is active (highlighted), some menus and other commands are not accessible. To deactivate the text field, simply press ⮐ (return key) on the keyboard or click back in the Design or Layout Window.

Tip: A warning triangle is shown next to the colourway name in the Layers Palette, alerting you if you have entered a duplicate colourway name.

Colourway name help tags

Colourway help tags display the colourway name. They appear when you hover over a colourway in the Colourway Chooser and are designed to help you locate your colourways more easily.
