‘CMYK>Spot’ Palette: Converts existing CMYK image layer channels to individual spot colour layers

Converting image layer channels to spot colour layers

This Palette was designed to combine the steps needed to break a CMYK image down into individual channels and rename them, taking away their combined status as an image. This is especially useful for separation artists as CMYK elements of an image can often be used as part of or to build up a design separation.

Note: The Palette is intended to run on a design file containing only one CMYK layer. Results may differ if used in another circumstance.

The steps performed in the ‘CMYK>Spot’ Palette

The Palette automatically selects the CMYK layer and splits down into 4 individual visible channels in the Layers Palette. Whilst this appears as separate spot layers, the naming convention (CMYK.X) of the channels is such that AVA still sees the group of 4 as a complete image. The Palette selects each channel and renames differently to remove this image affiliation.

How to use the ‘CMYK>Spot’ Palette

  1. Open a design document ensuring only one CMYK image layer is contained within.
  2. Click the CMYK>Spot Palette to run it.
  3. The renamed CMYK channels will be displayed in the Layers Palette and can now be recoloured as spot layers.
