‘Outline’ Palette: Create a solid outline around existing design data

Design effects

This Palette is designed to create a solid outline around design information within a selected layer. The outline is placed on the outside of the layer information. The outline is created as a separate spot layer which can be recoloured. The width of the outline can also be edited within the working of the Palette itself.

Note: Creation of the outline is performed upon execution of the Palette and is a final rendered result. Any adjustments to the width of the outline detail in the Palette steps will require a re-run of the Palette.

The steps performed in the ‘Outline’ Palette

As there are no direct functions to apply an outline to areas in AVA files, this Palette takes on many steps to achieve the outline effect including select and snap, grow, delete and fill. Users also can edit the outline width by adjusting the grow amount (see below). The Palette (by default) creates an outline of approximately 1mm.

How to use the ‘Outline’ Palette

  1. Select and make active the layer you wish to add an outline to.
  2. Click the ‘Outline’ palette. A new ‘black’ layer containing the outline will appear at the bottom of the layer list.

How to edit the ‘Outline’ final outline width

  1. Hold ⌥ (option key) and click on the Palette to enter the editing window.
  2. Locate the ‘Grow’ entry and click its edit icon.
  3. Enter the required width amount in the appropriate units.
