Cleaning up noisy selections

What to do if your selection has a lot of pixels around it

Noisy selections are often the result of using the Magic Wand tool, and if not handled correctly, can take a very long time to clean up.  However, if you follow this simple, yet very effective tip, you can clean these selections up very, very quickly!

  1. Grow the noisy selection by 2 or 3 pixels by going to Edit Menu > Select > Grow.
  2. Now shrink the selection back by going to Edit Menu > Select > Contract and using the same number of pixels you grew the selection by. The results can be amazingly effective!
