Instructions for using this tool

This tool is used to create regular, even cells within a rectangle or square.

  1. Choose Grid Menu > Add Grid to add a grid layer to your document, and select the Rectangular Grid Tool from the Tools Palette.
  2. Click and drag a box from the top left corner of the grid to create the outline. The inner cells of the grid are created automatically to fill it.

Tip: To draw perfectly square grids, hold down ⇧ (shift key) as you draw your grid.

Scaling options are used to calculate the size of each grid cell. To access the scaling options, double click on the Rectangular Grid Tool in the Tools Palette and enter the number of grid cells needed in the Grids Across and Grids Down dialog boxes.

In many cases, the number of grid cells across and down the grid will be the same. However, you are able to enter different numbers in both boxes to allow for irregular shaped grids.

It is important to keep the grid cells as square as possible when creating the grid. If the cells are disproportionately wide or tall, the design will be distorted incorrectly when it is transferred into the grid and could look like this...
