Troubleshooting Production Colour Management (PCM)

How can I colour within my production gamut?

When you started the Production Colour management procedure you were probably required  to print an ECI 2002 target in your production and measure this in with your spectrometer to build a Custom Overprint.  This same data can be opened into AVA's Profiler Application and saved out as an ICC profile.  If you don't have access to this application please contact AVA Technical Support for assistance.

Once you have an ICC profile saved, to use it to show your production gamut when picking new Colours simply; bring up the AVA Multiview Picker, click Open, open the ICC profile then check 'ICC Profile' in the picker window.

Set as above the gamut shape will now be an approximation of your production gamut, so if you choose colours within this space your production should be able to mix the colours in your designs.  When using a CMYK production file here you may need to increase the dE figure from the default 3 to smooth the data.

If you want to only pick colours your Printers gamut as well, you would also check Printer.

Where do I save my Overprint and Tone DB files?

Your Overprint and Tone DB files should be stored in the Profiles folder in side the AVA Folder within the Application Support folder.

To get to the Application Support folder you need to be in the Finder, then hold down the Alt key, click on the Go menu and select Library inside this Library you will find Application Support and AVA. In here you will see Profiles, your Overprint file needs to go into the Overprint folder and the Tone DB file needs to go into the Production folder. Once the files are in place they should then show as options within the AVA software.

Layers are showing blank

This is likely to be due to either your layer's colours have no Reflectance data or the substrate colour set in AVA having no Reflectance data.  To check this, drag the colour(s) to a new ColourSys colourfile, then in ColourSys double click the colour to Edit it.  If your colour has no Reflectance data the box in the bottom left will be empty, see example below.

If the colour has data you will see curve in this box, see example below.  Normally 'AVA Printing White' will have Reflectance data, but it may not if you have an none AVA profile in the CMS Controller.
