Printing your design

Designs can be printed from AVA to any connected printer. When a file prints, a progress window is displayed. The file is instantly copied at the start of the printing operation which allows you to click back into your design and continue working without affecting the print in progress. You can even close the document and the print in progress will continue.

Printers can be connected and used in any of the following ways:

  • directly to the computer using USB or Firewire cable
  • on the network
  • via a shared computer using Printer Sharing
  • using the AVA Digital Print RIP via a print server computer

For more information on the above printing set ups, contact AVA Technical Support.

Selecting the Printer Type

As there are several ways to print from AVA (depending on how your printer is connected to your computer or network), it is necessary to select the correct Printer Type before you are able to print.

Go to File Menu > Printer Type and select the appropriate option from the list. As a general rule, if your printer is connected directly to your or your colleagues computer, you will choose Mac®OSXPrinter. If you print through a rip, you will choose one of the other drivers in that list.

Call AVA Technical Support for advice and assistance with which option to select if you are unsure.

Setting the Page Setup

Go to File Menu > Page Setup… or click on the Page Setup button in the toolbar.

Allocate the size, orientation and resolution of your print. The window that opens will vary depending on which Printer Type you have selected and which type of printer you are using. Enter the information you require to suit your printer and paper.

Sending the file to print

Once the Printer Type and the Page Setup have been selected, your design can be sent to print. Make sure the desired images or layers are visible and choose File Menu > Print or click on the Print button in the toolbar.

The window that opens will vary depending on which Printer Type you have selected and what type of printer you are using. There may be additional settings to go through before clicking OK. Call AVA Technical Support for advice and assistance if you are unsure.
