Viewing layers in the Layout Window

When viewing a design in the Layout window for the first time, every layer will be visible. It may be necessary to make certain layers invisible from time to time, so switching them on and off is very quick and easy.

  1. Activate the Selection Tool and click on the colourway. The layers will all be visible in the Layers Palette.

  2. Click on the eyes next to the layer chips which are to be switched off in the Layers Palette. The chosen layer colours will disappear from the palette at the side of the colourway and from the design area, leaving only the visible layer colours there.

When there are multiple colourways in the Layout Window, depending on the colourway that you have clicked on, the list of layers in the Layers palette will display the visible layers of that colourway. As soon as you click on another colourway, the list of layers will update to display the visible layers of that colourway.

If a design has not been separated and there are no spot layers in the file, the image will be displayed automatically when taken into Layout. If there are spot layers in the file as well as the image however, they will all be visible. The image or layers can be made invisible by selecting them in the Layers Palette, allowing you to change what you see on the page.

Making one layer visible with one click

Holding down ⌥ (option key) on the keyboard, click on the visible indicator of a layer, switches all the other layers off and displays only the chosen one. This allows separations to be viewed individually, one by one much more quickly.
