AVA Settings
Design Substrate
The Document Substrate should be 'AVA Printing White' (you could also set the Applications setting to the same).
The Printing White will show the white point of the Printer Profile, unless you have a Proofing profile set, then it will show you the white point of the proofing profile.
DeleteCMS Settings
Soft Proof
- Open the CMS controller
- Go to File > Print Factory mode. This will take you automatically to the Soft Proof tab.
- Set the Print Factory proofing icc profile in the Soft Proof tab of CMS and tick the 'Use other profile' option. The soft proof should also be active in the AVA Overprint Inspector, if you want to view how the print will look on the printer, i.e. soft proof.
Printer Profile
- Set the appropriate D65 or D50 Interchange profile in the 'Profiles' tab > Output Profile. Viewing Conditions tab should be set to match the illuminant being used with Interchange and in your Print Factory PMM Variant.
AVA TIFF Printer
Select the Printer Type 'AVA Tiff Printer' (File > Printer Type)
Page Setup
- Set your size
- Choose your resolution compatible with your printer.
- Set Compression to LZW (Predictor on)
- File Type to RGB
- Tick 'Embed Profile'
- Click 'OK'
Printing the design
File > Print the 'Tiff' to an appropriate location.
Print Queues, to send the TIFF files to can be set up on the RIP application or TIFF file can be opened via Layout application and Submitted to the RIP queue for printing.

Select the Printer Type 'PrintFactory' (File > Printer Type).
Page Setup
The top part of the driver has the familiar AVA printer driver options.
- Set your preferred units
- Set your preferred size manually or click 'Set From Document' to capture the document size
- If you want to specify a single repeat as a production length and width:
- Ensure that your design is in a square repeat. In AVA, Crop to one repeat in the appropriate number of repeats (half drop 2ax 1dwn etc) OR fit repeats to production width and single repeat down (Repeat window function).
- Click 'Set from Document' then tick 'Step and Repeat'
- Specify exactly the amount you want to print in total width and height.
- Set the appropriate resolution.
- Make sure the IP address of your PrintFactory RIP is entered and connected.
- Choose the specific PMM and variant details you require
- Choose the media width from the 'Size' options along with alignment.
- Option to download your soft proof icc profile, Label, Cutting Marks and Colour Bars (see below).
- Click 'OK'

Downloading A Specific PMM 'Soft Proof' icc from within AVA
Colour management and accuracy is reliant upon AVA Printing White being set in Substrate and also the specific Soft Proof icc profile (for your chosen PMM) to be set in CMS 'Soft Proof'. Soft Proof profiles can be downloaded via the PrintFactory Driver Page Setup.
- File > Page Setup
- Set the Printer, Media and Mode as required for the ICC profile.
- Set the Variant to the 'Proofing' or Absolute option (see Variants - Recommended Settings)
- Click the 'Download ICC Profile' button and save to desired location.
Downloading A Specific PMM 'Soft Proof' icc from within Print Factory
- In PrintFactory Calibrator app, find the specific PMM and Variant you will use.
- Right click and select 'Export Soft Proof icc'.
- Save it and copy to the AVA design station(s).
Adding information labels to jobs
Preset job information labels can be set directly in AVA. Labels are pre-created in the PrintFactory RIP and will appear in the Page Setup 'Label' list,
- File > Page Setup
- Click the Label drop down list and select the required label preset.
Adding colour bars
Also known as spit bars, Colour bars are continuous strips of the printers pure inks which act as a safety net when monitoring production jobs. Should a head stop working, you will be able to see from the colour bars. Colour bars can be added directly in AVA to a job.
- File > Page Setup
- Click the Colour Bars drop down and choose left, right or both.
- Enter the width of each individual bar
Printing a job
- File > Print and rename the job file or keep to the default.
- Click 'Print'. The job is immediately sent to the RIP queue and processed ready for final print. If your printer is not on hold, the job will print immediately.
