Make Colourways lets you add as many colourways to your design as you like. You can determine whether these new colourways are blank, in which case each layer is usually black (it uses the colour set as the Default Spot Layer Colour in the File Format Preference), or whether these colourways are randomly created using colours from your active colour file.
This is a great way of getting started with the creation of colourways if you have been supplied with a specific colour palette to use.
- Open a Layout Window and add a new colourway object to the page.
- Select Make Colourways from the Colourway Menu or use the shortcut which can be added to the toolbar.
- Enter the number of colourways you want to add to the design. For example, if you only have one colourway, and you make 5 more, you will have a total of 6 colourways in your design.
- Select how you want the new colourways to be created:
- Random From Colour file - will randomly select colours from the active colour file. If this option is not ticked, each layer in the new colourways will usually be black. This is ideal if you plan to use the Inspire function to create the layer colours later.
- Constrain to Monitor Gamut - if Random From Colour file is selected, the chosen colours will also be constrained to your monitor profile.
- Constrain to Printer Gamut - if Random From Colour file is selected, the chosen colours will also be constrained to your printer profile.
- The requested number of colourways will be added to the file, and you can see these by opening the Colourway Chooser in the Layers Palette:
Alternatively, you can open the Colourway Browser to see your newly added colourways. The Tile function offers an easy and speedy way of laying these new colourways out on your Layout Window, ready for recolouring.
