You can transfer both images and layers into any Texture Mapping Scene, however transferring separated designs comes with its benefits. For example, if the design includes colourways, these are transferred as well, and you can recolour designs after they have been transferred, making those final touches to any presentations quick and simple.
Transferring a design into a Texture Mapping Scene
In order to transfer a design as layers, it must already be separated into layers in the original source design. You can separate the design in AVA if you are licensed for Quick Separations or Technical Separations. If you do not have either of these and you want to transfer separated designs, you will need to use ready separated files. It is important to use only files that are ready for production, that is: they are the correct repeat size, work in repeat, and are separated with the required colourways saved in the file.
- Open your separated design.
- In the Layers Palette, activate the layers you want to transfer.
- Click back into the scene file, activate the first grid (it does not need to be visible) and make sure the image is not active. If you plan to use several different designs within the same scene, make sure you activate the relevant grid on to which you wish to transfer the first design. In the example below, several grids are used for the dress, so the relevant ones have been activated.
- Go to Grid Menu > Transfer Draft. The design will transfer in repeat into the selected portion of the active grid. The software will automatically create the same number and type of layers in the scene file as there are in the design file.
- If any part of the design does not look right, select Edit Menu > Undo before continuing.
- Make any changes necessary, such as changing the scale of the grid or the area trimmed by the selection.
- Make sure the grid and the transferred design layers are all active, then re transfer the design.
If you do not reactivate the layers, a second set of layers will be created when you re transfer the design, increasing the file size unnecessarily.
- Repeat Steps 3 to 7, activating each relevant grid in order.
- Once the design has been transferred to all the relevant grids, go to Grid Menu > Transfer High to give a higher quality transfer for each grid. The high quality transfer will take longer to complete than the draft mode transfer. The total time will vary depending on the size of the design.
Transferring several designs into the same Texture Mapping Scene
- Follow the above method for separated designs using the first design to be transferred. It is best to transfer the design with the most layers first.
- Open the second design to be transferred and activate all the layers. Make a note of the number, type and colour of layers in this design.
- Click back into the scene file and activate the first relevant grid for the second design.
At this stage, it is important to decide whether to create a new set of layers, or transfer the design to the existing layers which were created by the first transfer. Generally, if the designs being transferred are coordinates, or they work as a set, you should be able to use the same set of layers, because they will carry corresponding parts of each design. If completely different designs are being used, it may be best to transfer to a new set of layers, so that the colourways of subsequently transferred designs are not changed.
- If you are transferring to the existing set of layers, make them active. If the second design has less layers than the first, you must only activate the number of layers required, so that you have the same number active as there are in the source file.
If you want to transfer to a new set of layers, do not make any layers active and a new set will be created automatically. - Go to Grid Menu > Transfer Draft. A window may open, displaying a pop up bar. This indicates that you have more than one design open.
- Select the relevant design to be transferred from the pop up bar and click OK.
- Repeat Steps 3 to 5, activating each relevant grid in order.
- Once the second design has been transferred to all the relevant grids, go to Grid Menu > Transfer High to give a higher quality transfer.
- Repeat this method again for any other designs to be transferred.
Transferring Vector Layers into a Texture Mapping Scene
You can transfer filled vector shapes and their colourways on to a Texture Mapping Scene. The process works in the same way as transferring separated designs.
- Activate all vector layers to be transferred in the design file.
- In the scene file, activate the grid(s) you wish to transfer the design to, and go to Grid Menu > Transfer Draft.
When transferred, the vector layers will be called ‘Vector’ in the Layers Palette, but will behave in the same manner as regular spot layers. They should look the same as they do in the original design file when viewed as filled.
